Our Philosophy

We believe that all humans deserve the opportunity to be part of the arts as it can have such a beautiful and healthy impact on one's life. As dance educators, we strive to create well-rounded humans, who have a strong relationship to their own bodies, have a developed sense of self, are able to think critically, take risks, and find joy.

To do so, we implore the following in class:

Sense of Joy

Above all else, we strive to allow our students to find joy in dance. As dancers and as humans, one of the strongest learning environments we can be in is one filled with happiness, where learning becomes fun and engaging. We believe, if nothing else, dance should be a place where humans can come to express, have fun, and explore the world while having a pure sense of joy.

Take Risks, Explore Possibilities

Learning happens when students break outside of their comfort zones in a safe and supported way. We strive to create a space where students feel encouraged to make mistakes, explore within concepts and structures, and take risks that allow them to create new understandings.

Technique as a Foundation for Art

We believe that technique should be approached in an anatomical and mechanical way, that strives for efficiency and is shaped differently in each dancer. No two dancers are the same, and their technical possibilities will look different. We teach technique as a foundation for creating art and expressing oneself, in a safe and educated way.

Growth as Humans and as Dancers

Dance allows us to create a deeper understanding and relationship with our bodies and ourselves; through dance, we strive to facilitate individual growth and understanding as a person. In class, we work to instill confidence in students that can transfer to everyday life, to encourage dancers to think individually, and to ask questions that develop the skills to think critically.

Empower Students

In the studio, we provide the building blocks for students to engage with and learn from. We work to give students the tools to take learning into their own hands and at their own pace, through facilitating a path for them to journey on as they go through their technical and artistic process. We solve problems together and develop the tools to think critically as a way to grow as dancers and humans.

Lead by Example

As educators, it is our job to set the energy in the room and lead by example, not asking of my students, what we would not ask of ourselves. Acknowledging that we make mistakes as a teacher and don’t always have all the answers. We work to have fun, express joy, and enthusiasm for students while teaching and take pride in their accomplishments, so they can take pride in their own.
